(And Make Sure It's Not Mine)
I guess because I have chosen a profession
that puts me in the public eye,
you feel free to tell me what to say,
what to write,
the important things to stress,
and what's wrong with what I do,
or what can be improved.
I'm not your puppet.
I do what I do so that I can say what I want to say.
I'm not going to do anything other than that.
That's the whole point.
You could have been a performance poet.
No one stopped you.
The choice was yours to make.
I can't help it if my choice looks better.
Just let me do my job
because I know how to do it.
And you do with yours what you will.
Don't worry.
I won't let you down.
I won't bore you.
I won't embarrass you.
That is, not unless you deserve it.
