(
What you are about to read may shock you):
I love BEVERLY HILLS 90210 . I make plans around it. I screen my calls during it. I order takeout food early enough so that it doesn't arrive during it.
I think I like the show because it's character-driven, not plot-driven
(unlike other location-based dramas).
In 90210 , a character's personality and history are never forgotten.
The choices a character makes are based on past experiences.
I know, because I've seen those past experiences.
I've been watching for a long time.
The changes the characters have sustained during the run of the show make sense.
There are no split personalities, no spiritual possessions
and no acts justified by insanity.
Who Kelly Taylor
is now is consistent with who she was in the first season.
You can actually watch a character
grow
and learn from season to season.
Brandon will always
have
a heightened sense of responsibility; Steve
will always make insensitive mistakes; Donna
will always be a virgin.
And I want to be Kelly.
Be her.
I want to steal my best friend's boyfriend
and then go out with her brother and somehow still be her
friend (even after she's left the show and gone to England to
study acting and is hanging out with Dylan
again and just calls
occasionally to let us know she's okay). I want to join a cult and then be
rescued by my current and ex-boyfriends.
Relaxed and happy.
One hour a week.
Relaxed and happy.
