They do have a network of 300 dealers handling their product. You can contact them at 800-859-8322 for info. Sierra Design also does not have factory sales although they do (or did) have an outlet in Berkeley and you could probably, from time to time, pick up a floor sample at a reduced price. Number to call is 800-736-8551 North Face does have a factory outlet ( see post to Alex for information) but don't have a listing for number. Factory number 800-447-2333 Additional source--Sierra Trading Post, Mail Order Outlet Store. Sells discount ewuipment including Sierra Designs , Kelty , etc. 307-775-8000 Someone (Steve Huber?) was looking for materials for do-it-yourself projects. Check Outdoor Wilderness Fabrics at 208-466-1602 for price list. regards Lee Freedman Lone Tree, Iowa From ibmwrNoSpam@NoSpamworld.std.com Sun May 25 15:35:41 1997 Date: Sun, 25 May 1997 14:15:09 -0500 References: <199705242349.TAA07778NoSpam@NoSpameurope.std.com> To: Alex Jomarron From: Lee Freedman Subject: Re: BMW: RE: discount tents Cc: bmwmcNoSpam@NoSpamworld.std.com, ascher26NoSpam@NoSpamworldnet.att.net Reply-To: Lee Freedman At 8:05 PM +0000 5/24/97, Alex Jomarron wrote: >Josh Ascher asks about locating discount tents. > >Josh, > >I've heard of the North Face and REI selling returned goods from time ot >time. Since you want a >quality brand I'd call the aforementioned stores and even the >manufacturer/distributor to see what >they do with their return/warranty stuff. > Alex I can answer that question if no one else does-----North Face has a factory outlet store in Berkeley, a few blocks from REI, off of Gilman Street, where they sell all their factory seconds and returns at reduced prices. As far as I know, it is strictly walk-in sales. I don't know how REI handles it since they don't manufacture--far as I know, their stuff is made by brand manufacturers with the REI label attached. I do know that they bought the Walrus tent company, but if they have sales on seconds, I can't say. You would probably have to call REI customer service for the information. regards Lee In Lone Tree Lee's Law of Motional Relativity: If I catch up to you, you're riding too slow! REI (atleast here in Phoenix) has a sale of returns and old models. Most of the bigger sports stores also clear older models. I have a Ketly Quattro 2 that I bought on clearance, also found ground cloth and vestibule on sale. Quattro is great for two or more days in one place. Big 2+ person but four poles in sleeves takes a while to put up. Skipper Phoenix AZ 1981 R80G/S - PD (Work In Progress) BOOF #21 Courtesy of Friends (?) They sell closeouts etc. Among others, they have the Walrus Skyline for $250, Walrus 2-star for $180, as well as quite a few other brands. In my experience they have been good on returns.
