Thanks! > >- -Jonathan Busser >'71 R60/5 >'83 R65 I just went through the same issue for a K100RT ... my luck was unbelievable though ... the cable partially snapped on my way home 1/4 mile from my house. After getting into the garage and de-helmeting, I worked the clutch lever a couple of times to see what was up, and it then broke completely, (at the usual spot) .... at the end of the day, sitting on the center stand in my own garage, with the tool box at hand :-) That is never again in this lifetime to be repeated luck! Don't be afraid of your dealer on this... cable is less than $25 for a K bike and I would guess little different for yours. One of the cheapest thing going for BMW. To echo the "no lube in the cable" advice ... the inner lining of the cable sleeve is allegedly teflon and lubes are potentially damaging, they can cause sharp debris to stick to the lining and then abraid the stainless inner cable ... keep it dry inside. The pivot barrel can also be lubed by any penetrating oil ... with some suspended graphite even better, and that avoids having to relieve the tension to lube. Probably because the barrel has to rotate in the lever each time you pull the clutch. Lack of lubrication. The cable ends want a bit o' grease now and again - like at each routine service.
