Earlier today I was at AAA's getting my tourist card and decided to also get a map of Baja. Upon return to my office, and review of the map, I noticed a little warning concerning gasoline, to wit: "Unleaded gasoline (Magna Sin) is often in short supply at various locations along Highway 1 -particularly in central Baja California- and almost never obtainable in remote regions of the peninsula. Leaded gasoline (Nova) is usually plentiful in most areas." The map is dated 1996. I checked back with the AAA office to confirm the accuracy of the above statement, and received a resounding YES! This situation continues to exist. The obvious effect of running leaded gas through a catalytic converter equipped vehicle is to ruin the converter. My BMW dealer further advised that leaded gas will probably damage my oxygen sensor for the fuel injection. Looks like I'll be taking my old bike. Glad I found this out before I purchased insurance on the new bike. Carl Tyler Millbrae, CA '96 R1100RT, '86 R80RT
